Edit Photographic Images P4

Editing

This is the photo that I'm going to use because the model in the photograph shows a very clear body gesture, and the way he positioned his face is suitable for a magazine cover.

First, I unlocked the layer so that I can edit on it. I double tap the layer and pressed OK.

Afterwards, I created 2 files, LOGO and TEXT to organise my layers carefully. The reason for this is because this magazine cover contains lots of text, model layer controls and logo. I need to organise it carefully to not confuse myself while editing.

I used the quick selection tool to outline the model because I wanted to duplicate another model layer on top of the original photograph layer.

I duplicated the layer with the model on it, I did this because I have to edit his skin tone.

In the layer of the duplicated model, I used filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
To create a smoother skin for the model. The reason I have to smoothen his skin because most of the models in magazine covers have perfect skin so that it will attract more people to watch it and buy it.

I chose the blurring radius to 3.0 pixels because if the radius is too big, it will blur out the whole image. I wanted a little bit blur on his skin.

After the blurring, I used the eraser tool to erase the eyes nose and mouth because I only want the skin to be smoothened. This is a comparison between burring and before burring. In the right, you can see wrinkles in his forehead, unclear hairline. After burring which is the photo in the right, the wrinkles in his forehead have reduced.

I wanted the photo to be clearer and brighter so that I adjusted the brightness. I went to adjustments > brightness and adjust it to the brightness that I wanted.

I added the VOGUE logo onto the photograph.
I used free transform to adjust the logo to the right size. The logo cannot be too close to the boarder of the magazine page.

I dragged the duplicated model layer onto the logo so the logo will appear behind the model, not covering the model's head. The logo is placed between two model layers.

I added the text MEN's on the right corner near the logo. I chose the font as Times new Roman and the size is 300.

After I added the text, I changed the colour of the text to make it stand out. If I make it to Black or white it will be very dull. I choose the colour as Beige because it is dependable, conservative and flexible. It is neutral, calm and relaxing.

I used a rectangle tool to use as a highlight behind the text. I dragged it over the text and make it black. I put the highlight layer under the text so that the highlight would not cover the text.

I downloaded a barcode off the internet. A barcode is essential for a magazine cover because when people buy it, the shop will scan it and show the price.

I dragged the barcode on the bottom right of the photograph. The barcodes usually appears in the bottom part of the magazine page because it won't block out the contents.

I added MACAO under the logo, Macao is the city where I live in. I added this because this is where the magazine is from.

I added some text on the photograph.
'Secret Behind the Skeleton'
The purpose of this text is to attract people to buy this magazine. I used two different fonts and colours for this sentence because it is more special and out standing.
I also added a quote in the left side of the magazine page. If I used the same colour in this quote, it doesn't work because the background is grey and the suit is black. So I edited the text in the grey area into black and edited the text in black area unto white.

For the stripes, I used the rectangle tool again to make the grid out by dragging to tool to the size I wanted.

First, I unlocked the layer to be able to edit it. I double tapped the layer and pressed OK.

In this photograph, I wanted to make it Black and white, so I went to Layer > New adjustment layer > Black & White.

After making it black and white, I want the contrast to be tenser and stronger, so I adjusted the brightness to -30, contrast to 100.

I made one layer out which is the area that I selected.

I cut off the model so there is a boarder left. I am going to use the brush tool to spray the colour white onto the boarder.

I used the white brush tool to making the boarder entirely white so that I would have a white boarder.

After that, I pasted it back which I selected previously so the white boarder will be at the back of the model.

I added the VOGUE logo onto the photo because it is a magazine cover.

I'm using free transform to adjust the Logo to the right size.

In this stage, the logo is overlapping the model's head. I selected the model, duplicate the model into the other layer. And put the logo between the background and the duplicated model layer. So the logo will no more overlapping the model.

I used the rectangle tool to create a highlight of the text 'HOMMES INTERNATIONAL'

I also added a small text in the O of the logo.

I added 'THE SKELETON' in the bottom of the photograph.
Also translated into Japanese and Korean.

I dragged the barcode onto the photograph.

I used free transform to make it vertical.

I wanted the background to be full of text with different languages of 'Black is the new style'. So I typed the languages all over the page. And drag the text layer to the last layer, so it will be under everything.

I combined these two photos together to create a double inner page for a magazine.

First, I unlocked the layer so that I can edit on it. I double tapped the layer and pressed OK.

I wanted the inner page to be black and white so I went to Image > Adjustments > Black and white.

I went to adjustment > brightness & contrast. I adjusted the brightness and contrast to make a fuller and solid effect.

I have a picture of smoke and I dragged it onto the photo to make it more special and eye catching.

Once I dragged the image onto the photo, I needed to adjust it to the same size as the double page size. I used free transform to make it fit the double page.

I don't want the smoke to be covering the whole double page so that I changed the opacity to 41%. So it is now transparent.

After that, the smoke is still covering the model and I have to make the smoke under the model.

I duplicated the model in the double page to create one more model layer so that the model could go over the smoke.
I dragged the smoke layer between the original layer of models and the duplicated layer of models.

Now the smoke is behind the model.

I want the smoke to be behind the left model,
and the smoke to be in front of the right model.

I used the eraser tool to erase the duplicated model on the right so that he will be behind the smoke.

For this one, I wanted to do something colourful and different from the previous ones. This will be an fashion advertising page for the brand M.AKS which is the initials of my name.

First, I have to unlock the layer so that I can edit on it. I double tapped the layer and press OK.

I outlined the model by using the magic wand tool to create 3 layers of the model.

I made 3 layers of the model and they are showing in the layers section.

I have a photo of the smoke, I used the magic wand to cut the basic outline and dragged it onto the original photo.

I added a grid distorted background because I wanted this page to be fun and playful.

I dragged the grid onto the photograph.
I used free transform for the grid because it has to be the same size as the page.

For the smoke, I went to transform, I used rotate and flip to adjust it to the right position.

I used the paint brush tool green and purple to add colours onto the smoke. I used the magic wand to outline the smoke so that the colours won't go anywhere but the smoke.

I put the smoke behind the model by dragging the layer behind the model layer.

I used Hue/Saturation to adjust the colours to make the effect more interesting. The colours will look more intense.

I cut out another smoke to use it as a shadow.

I adjusted the smoke to brightness 150 and contract 100.

---------------------------------

I'm going to use this photograph for this horror movie magazine advertisement 'Trapped' because the model looks a little bit frightened, dull and quiet, and the fact that the model is looking up the lighting and feels like he's trapped and needs help.
First, I unlocked the layer so that I can edit on it.

I adjusted the brightness to -71 to make it darker because this is a horror movie advertising poster. It can't be bright because it is not scary.

I added these movie credits because it is an essential to a movie poster.

I started adding text for the title of the movie 'Tapped'. I decided to create two layers of the text to make it more special.

I made the back layer of text to red and adjusted it's opacity. This creates a more depth to the text.
At the top, I added 'You can never escape' to indicate what this horror movie is about.
I'm going to combine this two image together. I want to use the model on the right to appear in the background of the poster.

First I need to outline the model and drag it onto the poster page. I use free transform to adjust it to the right size and adjust the opacity.

---------------------------------

This is an action movie advertisement poster in a magazine.
First, I double tapped the layer and pressed OK to unlock the layer so that I can edit on it.

Again, I duplicated the model layer to make more adjustments to it.

I wanted the model to be black and white so that I went to adjustment > black and white.
I went to brightness / contrast to edit it to the fullest and solid effect. I made the brightness to 45 and contrast to 84.
